Outlook has stopped showing unread messages in bold type - how do.

I am using Outlook 2003 SP1. It has stopped showing unread messages in Inbox
in bold type - I cannot find the setting to reinstate this feature

Do you have the reading pane open, and is it set to mark items as read when
viewed in the reading pane? (tools, options, reading pane)

Are you sure the messages aren't indeed already marked as 'read'? If you
right click on a message, do you see "mark as unread" as an option, and if
you choose it, does it change?

Hi,

Yes, ""mark as Unread" was an option. Clicking it put the message into the
unread mail folder, and registered on the inbox unread mail counter, but did
not "force" it into bold type.....

My reading pane is open and messages are set to be marked as read after 5
seconds.
