Outlook Hijacked?

Dan S

While sitting at my computer with Outlook open, Norton Antivirus will display
its popup scanning email window in the lower right hand corner of the
monitor--WITHOUT me sending any email or without receiving an email. It's as
if someone or some virus is using my Outlook application to send out email.
A check of "Sent Items" shows nothing--of course.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Does it say it found something? Check the AV scanner logs to verify.

All of the new viruses have their own SMTP engine and don't use Outlook...
so you won't see anything in the sent folder.

No. The Norton AntiVirus scanner logs show no virus detected. So what would
Norton be scanning in a 4-5 second period, but Outlook traffic?

Hard to say - does it happen if Outlook is closed?
