Outlook Integration Login Error

Hi again everyone - I've got an error when I try to use Project
Server's new Outlook Integration feature (the insertion of and ability
to update tasks in your Outlook Calendar, not viewing PWA within
Outlook). I log in to PWA using my Windows username (passes through
automatically like it should), recognizes me as the correct user. I
click Download Now, select Open on the file prompt, and the COM Add-in
installs without a hitch. The problem is that when I try to Import
New Assignments (or Update), I get an error box stating that "Login
Failed". I've checked the PWA Login settings with Outlook, it is set
to use my Windows account. To test whether the box was using my
Outlook login I have created an account on Project with the
appropriate login, and the error still exists.

Outlook and the server are in the same domain. Outlook is XP/2002.
I've tried working both Connected and Offline. Project Pro 2003 is
able to connect fine. I've tried having my Internet Settings both
automatically use my Windows credentials for login on all sites and
Intranet only as well.

Has anyone had much experience/success with this new feature? Is
there any advice that can be offered?

Thanks,
Matt

Rebecca - You don't have to install SSL to use PWA. SSL is required
for using the link "Log In Using A Different Windows Username" at the
PWA Login screen. I've used both SSL and non-SSL, both have worked
fine. I have found it a bit difficult at times to configure Project
Server to use SSL at times, so if you've never installed/used PWA
before my personal recommendation for evaluation purposes is to not
use SSL.

Has anybody worked with the Outlook Integration/Editing tool and
encountered an error like the previously stated error?

I have used the Outlook integration feature extensively and haven't had any
problems.

Using the same machine, are you able to get your account to automatically
login to Project Web Access? What about Project Pro? Are you positive you
are using the exact same URL as you are using for Project Pro? If your
login works for Project Pro, it should work for the Outlook PWA addin.

David - Yes, I'm able to automatically logon using PWA, and if I use
windows authentication with Project Pro I'm able to pass through just
fine. If I change the authentication method of Outlook Integration to
use Project Server authentication and use an account from there I'm
able to synchronize (for testing purposes only, users will be using
Windows authentication). Yes, the same url
(http://<servername>/ProjectServer) is being used for both Outlook's
access and Project Pro's access.

Thanks for your suggestions, do you have any more? Do you know which
file Outlook Integration uses to check credentials (lgnps.asp,
lgnintpj.asp...)?

One other idea I have is to give the Windows authenticated user
Administrative (Domain admin if multiple servers are involved) access as a
test and see if that fixes things. If so, then there is a permissions issue
as you surmise. I do not know how the Outlook PWA addin connects to Project
Server but it is probnably through the Project Data Service (PDS) instead of
going against a login page. Good luck.

David - Giving the Windows account Administrative access didn't solve
the problem. Since you mentioned PDS, is there a way I can verify
what credentials are being sent? Do you have any other advice?

Thanks for the advice,
Matt
