Outlook is Frozen

I can receive email. But when I try to send a new email,
or reply to an existing one, I get a message saying:

"Starting Word as your email editor ... "

And that box stays on the screen forever, frozen, nothing
happens.

I thought it could be a virus, but my anti-virus software
is up-to-date and nothing is detected.

Please help!
