Outlook Item Log File

I've been having trouble with my Office Outlook 2007 Journal not recording
any of the activities of any of the other office application activities (see
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...27a6e3c352e5&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1).
I found http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/839945/en-us - "Office
programs do not appear in the Journal Options dialog box in Outlook 2002 and
in Outlook 2007" which has a solution which I guess works in Windows XP
redirecting the targets of the “Item Log File†and “Outlook Item Log File".
I checked to see if it was possible to do this manually in Vista and found
the location for the “Item Log File†but the “Outlook Item Log File†doesn't
seem to exist.
I also found discussion of this being an known issue that should have been
resolved in service pack 2 but it doesn't seem to have happened.
Does anyone know if their is an equivalent fix for XP or where the “Outlook
Item Log File†is or should be located.

Do you mean that the file doesn't exist on disk or that the registry key
mentioned in the article doesn't exist?

It should be located right where the article says it should be located. The
article describes the XP path.

(1) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/839945/en-us talks about
modifying "both the Item Log File and the Outlook Item Log File values" but
the values it gives you to put into the files cannot work in Vista because
the file trees are different.
(2) Even if they could work I can find the “Item Log File†in Vista but the
“Outlook Item Log File†doesn't seem to exist.

Of course they're different. You said: "Does anyone know if their is an
equivalent fix for XP?" I assumed you meant Windows XP. As I said, the
article itself is written for Windows XP. In Vista, the path would be
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Do you mean in the registry? If it's not there, create it.

Its there in the registery but it points to
C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\outitems.log - a file that
doesn't exist.

Did you try what the article said and delete the Journal entry from the
registry? Did you try redirecting the path to, say, ...Documents\Outlook to
see if that made any difference?
