I have been using the Journal for a number of years, upgraded from
Outlook'98 to 2002. I have been having the same problem with both programs.
When I move an e-mail to the Journal, it also goes into the Deleted Item
folder. If I delete it out of that folder, I can not open it in the Journal,
I get an error message saying "the message has been moved or deleted". So, I
had to make a new folder to store my journal items, which doubles my file
size. At this point my Outlook file is about 1G.
