I have a remote user that VPNs into a corporate network to connect to our
Exchange server to get his email. He's setup for cached Exchanged mode like
all our other remote users. This user's Outlook always starts in Offline
mode. How can I resolve this?

Actually, the user is already connected and is able to ping the mail server
prior to launching Outlook. If I go to File - Work Offline and select it to
work online, it will go online. However, if I close Outlook, then re-open
it and it will be in Offline mode. The user has to keep doing this even if
his is already connected. Of the 20 or so remote users, this is the only
user experiencing the issue.

Hi,

I'm having the same issue with one of my VPN users. I can uncheck Offline
but when he opens Outlook again it takes him automatically to Offline. He's
the only one that we're having an issue with. We're running Outlook 2003,
Exchange 2003, SBS 2003.

Did you ever find a resolution??

Thanks

Well, it seems the problem has gone away. It could be Office SP2, or a patch
that fixed it. I did modify the hosts file to point directly to the mail
server IP. I've noticed that a wireless connection is more likely to
experience this than a wired connection.

Hi,

Are you running XPSP2? If so, you can set the user(s) up to you RPC/HTTP.
This will allow them use the Outlook client to check there mail and they will
not have to use the vpn. Just a a thought
