Outlook locks

When I open outlook it takes a long time. Once in, it will lock up when
opening mail or calender events. Where do I check to find out why?

The version of Outlook?
The size of the data file?
Tried the Office cd, or Detect / Repair from Outlook Help menu?
Tried scanpst.exe the repair tool, with OL closed,?
