Outlook Maximum Size

Michael

Hi,

We run Exchange 2003 R2 and outlook 2003. One of my bosses complains his
outlook runs very slow. I check and find his total outlook mailbox size is
over 12GB.

I cencern if his outlook mailbox would be crashed. Does someone tell me
what's the default maximum size for each mailbox in Exchange 2003 R2? How to
fix this issue?

Because he is a boss, I cannot push him to archive his old emails.

Many thanks in advance.

I believe there is no default set in Exchange 2003 but you can set a default
which applies to your entire organization at once and is highly recommended.
Consider receiving a mail bomb and no limits have been set; the Exchange
database will fill itself until it can take no more and crashes.

For most organizations, the limits are set somewhere between 500MB and 2GB.
It really depends on your type of organization, size of the organization,
working habits, Exchange infrastructure, backup solutions and other needs to
determine a good limit for your organization.

By default, the ost-file can grow as large as 20GB. In reality you'll
probably start to notice slowdowns at 5GB already (depending on your
hardware). Your boss should really decide on what to keep and what to
archive/delete.
