Okay, what's the deal with News support in Outlook? I've gotten past my
misconception that Outlook is a superset of OE. When I finally determined
how to do the "GO" thing to launch Outlook Newsreader only to find out that
it's actually running OE, that was just rude!
This does NOT make things more convenient!
Since the two applications use different address books this reintroduces
the old problem when OE coexisted with Windows Messaging. There are also
good reasons to generate an email in response to a news post. Splitting
Mail and News will complicate this, or am I missing something?
Since Outlook Newsreader is OE (See Help>About...) won't launching
Newsreader cause OE/Newsreader to "steal" email from Outlook unless I delete
the email accounts in OE that I migrated to Outlook? Don't I nead an email
account defined in OE to act as a "pipeline" to the News Servers? Is there
somewhere all this is detailed?
On the issue of "Default Newsreader", I managed to figure out on my own
that the news menu entry on GO disapeared due to changing the default. (THAT
took me a while!) What is the "proper" way to set things as a workaround
for this [unresolved] problem? Will MS put a fix for this quirk on the
"updates" web site?
It looks the newsreader is using the same set of data file regardless of
being invoked as OE or as ON (Outlook Newsreader). Is this correct?
I suppose I may have more questions once I start using this software,
but, isn't it ironic that support for Office, and Outlook especially, is via
a news server that Office doesn't want to support with a more robust reader?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Mike
