outlook-no program associated to perform-

I have xp, IE8 and outlook express 6. I downloaded powerpoint viewer 2007. I
receive many email attachments that I cannot open because I get this message:
(this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. create an association in the folder options control panel). I went to
control panel, folder options and clicked the "view" tab and saw that the
powerpoint was in there but for some reason it does not open those emails
that need powerpoint.How do I create an assocation? or what am I not doing
that I need to do? thank-you

I just saw another post saying to go to windowsxp.mvps.org etc and I will
check that out.
