Outlook not working correctly

Outlook 2007 installed on Lenovo X301 laptop, 4 gig memory, Vista Business
OS. Member of a domain.

I loaded Outlook 2007. Moved Outlook.pst so that it was easier to synch.
Had more trouble - it does not display downloaded messages, although it does
send them. Clicking "Send/Receive" indicates activity, but nothing new is
displayed.

I removed Outlook via the Programs applet in Control Panel, then reinstalled
it while I was logged into my office domain. Same problem. Ran ScanPST. No
difference. Ran diagnostics - it found nothing and the same problem exists -
I do not see any new messages. If I go to the "Accounts" section and test
it, all is ok. I send a test message, and it gets sent, but I do not see it
on this copy of Outlook. What am I doing wrong?

Describe the exact steps you used to move the PST.
I removed Outlook via the Programs applet in Control Panel, then reinstalled

Reinstalling Outlook would not fix this type of problem. It's most likely a
mail profile issue and uninstalling Outlook doesn't affect the profile.

What does the Test button in the account properties do? What do you see in
the diagnostic log for a send/receive when you've enabled diagnostic logging?

Sorry for the delay - I was in Maine for a week without email. As I recall,
the test button works fine. If I use another computer, I can read the test
message which is sent. Unfortunately, the laptop sends ok but there is
nothing received.

The link you cited does not give the location for Vista, but no matter, I
will figure it out. I enabled logging so now if I can get my wireless router
to work, I will let you know the content of the diagnostic log, assuming I
find it. Thanks.

Next time, change any real mail addresses that appear. It is not a good idea
to post real addresses in a newwsgroup, since spammers harvest them.

Your log shows that only one account was used by Outlook and that there were
no messages on the server for Outlook to download. In short, there's nothing
wrong in the send/receive process shown in the log. it seems odd to me that
two sessions with the pop.lmr.com server occur at the same time, but there's
nothing wrong with that, per se. What exactly do you think is wrong again?

The problem is that there ARE messages available. The laptop doesn't
download them but the workstation does. For example, the test message. It
does exist, I can see it with Questmail (a web mail application used by
Futurequest) and they will download to the Outlook installed on my
workstation. I wonder if there is a possibilty that the email login is
incorrect. I have to leave for the coast now, but I'll be back tomorrow
evening and will try it then. There is only one valid email address - rapp
at lmr dot com - but could an incorrect login be permitted? I need to
experiment with this, it seems to be the only thing that makes sense. There
are no error messages when trying to pick up email, but nothing gets picked
up. I wonder if I havetwo ways into the pop3 account but only one of them is
valid?

The relevant portion of the log is this:

The STAT command is Outlook asking the POP server if there are any messages.
The +OK 0 0 response is the server telling Outlook there are no messages to
download. The first number states how many messages are waiting and the
second number states how many bytes they contain. In your case, the server is
saying "zero messages, zero bytes". Outlook simply believes what the server
is telling it. How can it do otherwise? If there is a discrepancy, then it's
a server-side issue, not an Outlook one.
I wonder if there is a possibilty that the email login is
incorrect. I have to leave for the coast now, but I'll be back tomorrow
evening and will try it then. There is only one valid email address - rapp
at lmr dot com - but could an incorrect login be permitted?

successful and that the username "lmrapp" and its associated password have
been verified. Any credentials other than "lmrapp" and its password would be
rejected unless you have other mailboxes on that same server. The actual
email address associated with the account is largely irrelevant. It seems
clear that in the case of lmr.com, the username is not the mail address. Some
POP servers require them to be. AT&T Yahoo, for example, uses the person's
AT&T mail address as the username.

I think I have a solution. The site and Futurequest has more than one way
in and provides both other mail accounts and access to the databases,
websites, etc.. I _think_ maybe I am using the WRONG login (but one that is
still valid), and that therefore the site says there is no email. This
would certainly explain things as I'd bet the "test" is just to see if the
login suceeds. I will try changing the login later today and see if that
fixes things. Thanks for all your help, ESPECIALLY your last post as that is
what has put me onto this path.

That was it. The ISP insists upon different logins for the different
functions. I had used a login that was good for something, but not for
email. I was right - the "test" button apparently only sees if the login
succeeds, but does not tell you if there is email available and downloadable.
(is that even a word?) IAC, once I changed the login name and password,
everything works - well, I have a new issue with Intellisync, but that's
another story which I'll have to deal with, but Outlook 2007 now works on
both machines and SynchPST keeps the two synchroniced. Thanks for the help.
Whew! That was fun - not!
