outlook Notification

I have just installed Office 2003.
To specify the duration or transparency of the alert,
click Desktop Alert Settings, and then select the options
you want. but the max is 30 sec!
is there a way to set notification to show for unlimited
time.
lets say u go to a meeting and when you come back you
want to know that u have new mail without having to check
your in box.
there must be a way!
in old versions of outlook there was an icon that would
appear in the system tray!

please help

For unlimited time, you've to leave the pointer on the notification.
There's still a notification enveloppe in the system tray.
