Outlook option - disable meeting alerts for events entered in past

I use outlook to keep track of my daily events like a journal as well as for
meetings in the future. It is very annoying that I cannot disable alerts for
events that I enter in the past. A simple selection in the calendar options
that allows a user to turn off the feature for anything entered into the
calendar that starts before the present time would suffice
