Outlook Orphan Processes

I've noticed that ever since I reinstalled Outlook (20002
SP-1) that through the course of the day Outlook starts
several processes that do not terminate when I exit
Outlook. I noticed this when I started getting errors
during send/receive. After killing all the orphan
processes the send/receive worked fine.

How do I get control of these orphan processes?
