Outlook over VPN

Ernie

I just replaced a laptop for one of my users, and now he can't use Outlook
when connected via VPN from his home.

He connects just fine to the VPN, and can open network drives and folders
and files, but when he opens Outlook the indicator in the lower right says
"trying to connect" but never actually connects. After a bit it says
"disconnected".

With my laptop I can connect fine and also open Outlook just fine over the
save VPN. Checking the RRAS log shows that both he and I are connected and
authenticated, and since he can open folders that are NOT available offline I
know that part is working properly.

Of course it's Saturday, and I'd rather go play...

He is able to get his emails both OWA as well as his Blackberry, but I
really need to get this fixed. Any ideas?

Can he ping the exchange server by name? Are you using a Hosts file for
that server IP?

Milly,

Thanks for getting back. We are not using a Hosts file, and although I can't
test his ping capability right now two of the shared drives he is able to
open are on that same server.

I'll have his laptop tomorrow and will check on the ping. I just tried it on
mine, and it works fine (although our laptops are different HP models, they
should be set up similarly, using the default settings for VPN).
