Sorry to hear that! I guess you'll have to go out
and purchase another copy since the CD is worthless
without the original Product Key.

Really? I thought Microsoft would replace disks for current versions if
people mailed in defective media. Since the key code is necessary, it's
loss could be construed as a media defect.

For the OP: contact Microsoft to see if they'd replace the product CD
with case & key code if you mailed them the original product CD. It's
worth asking. Also, take any newsgroup response with a grain of salt.

Folks,

The Microsoft Knowledge Base is a good source of information about topics
such as this. See if this helps:

How to replace lost, broken, or missing Microsoft software or hardware:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326246

You'll see a statement near the end about contacting PSS to replace lost key
codes.

Microsoft will not replace any of their software if you
do not have the Product Key or Product Identification
Number. Sending them just a CD and expecting a new
CD and Product Key will be fruitless. Even banks will
not replace loss currency, even if you provided the
serial numbers.

Poor analogy. Closer would be you can trade in a car even if you don't
have its keys if you can provide proof of ownership. If the key is the
only proof of ownership, then you're screwed.

Still, in this case better to seek an answer from a Microsoft employee
than any outsider no matter how much that outsider may believe s/he
know about Microsoft's operations.

Note the url given in Susan Ramlet's response. On that page you'll find
a section with the text:

"Replacement of CD or Product Keys

To replace a CD or Product Key, you must contact PSS. To locate the
appropriate phone number for your product, visit the following
Microsoft Web site:[...]"

Why would it mention replacement product keys if it weren't possible to
replace them? Why would they need to be replaced unless they were lost?

Just one thought Susan. If this is a standalone Outlook that came with a
PDA, the PDA manufacturer is responsible for support, including generating a
new key.
