Have you compacted the .pst file after archiving messages?

On my computer, running Win98SE and Outlook 98, my Outlook.pst file
had, by yesterday morning, reached the size of 322,896 KB. I then
archived a big load of email messages and deleted a big load of email
messages that were not part of the archive, deleted them from the
deleted folder, and compacted the personal folders. The resultant
file was 281,280 KB.

Given the volume of what I had deleted or removed, I would have
expected to have made a bigger dent in the size of the PST file.

did you run compact? right click on the top of the folder list (outlook
today) and choose properties. then advanced and compact it.

So it would seem so.

Given that, is there any other explanation for this humungous .pst
file size?

Frankly, I don't consider 280 or 300 MB PSTs to be "humongous".

I sure as hell do. I have a home office and a laptop version of outlook
without a wireless scenario. To export/import the 800mb .pst file is
rediculous. I love the product but am seriously considering going back to
Eudora.

Why in the world would you export to or import from a PST? You lose data
that way and it's never needed.

Hi,

I am getting this error message when I am trying to open a pst file:

"*.pst is not a personal folders file" and it is only 29 MB in size.

Please help me to solve this problem.
