Having spent hours Googling this problem and trying a dozen fruitless
ways to clear it I wonder if anyone here can help?
I have copied my pst file from my PC to my laptop so I can use Outlook
when I'm out of the office/home but at first it wouldn't have it
saying I didn't have permissions to open the file. I've now got around
that problem but Outlook (both versions are 2007) now reports it as
not being a PST file. I've tried to use the Microsoftb outlook repair
tool "scanpst.exe" to fix it (make sure it sees it as a PST file) but
it reports the file is a read only file.
When I check the file properties in windows file explorer however the
read only box isn't ticked, it's telling me the file isn't read only.
The two questions here are, is there something else I can do to make
outlook see the file as writeable (am I missing something), or is
there another way to take a copy of the PST file off my PC (about 1.75
GB) and put it on my laptop so Outlook will see it and use it?
This is driving me nuts I've tried altering the file attributes both
before copying the file from my PC and after putting it on the laptop.
Looking at the file properties, everywhere says it is OK, logged in as
an administrator I have full permissions to alter the file but still
Outlook tells me first that it isn't an Outlook file, then if I try to
run scanpst.exe to fix it, that it's read only.
Or as an alternative because of all the hassle I then came up with the
idea of taking office and outlook off completely, then reinstalling it
so it creates a new PST file but when I do this there must obviously
be some bits of the old installation that are hiding on the drive as
straight away the new installation points to where the old PST file
used to live and when it can't find it closes down (I've uninstalled
it using the disk and uninstall in control panel)
This means I can't get it to make a new PST file and it won't accept
the one I've got.
Does anyone know if Microsoft have an uninstall and clean program
which will get rid of all the bits from outlook so I can do a new
install?
