Outlook Randomly Asks for Network Password or Login

Here is my situation. It's driving me, and one of our clients, nuts!

Several users' email clients continue to prompt them for their
"network login." This started occurring last week. Their email is
through SBC. They do NOT have an Exchange POP3 connector. All of their
email clients, MS Outlook XP, are set to retrieve/send through SBC's
POP server. I've tried changing the SMTP and POP servers to their
corresponding IP address instead of name servers. Their static IP is
configured in their Linksys Wi-Fi broadband router. I have contacted
SBC support with no luck. I have changed their email account passwords
and reconfigured Outlook with the new password and checked the
"remember password" box. However, it continues to prompt for the
password (even though it is already saved, i.e. *******). You don't
even have to retype the password, just click ok to accept the saved
entry. I thought at first that it may be their antivirus software.
I've disabled the email scanning and auto-protect functions and it
still produces the same result. One has Norton AV and the others have
MacAfee. One of the users told me today that theirs was fixed and that
it hadn't prompted them for three days. To no avail, it starting
prompting them for their network login this afternoon. Have any of you
run into similar issues? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do a tracert to the pop mail server (pop.mail.yahoo.com) You will probably
find it goes to IP address 206.190.53.11 through 63.210.29.230

If so, change the pop server to:
216.136.173.10

Yes use the fixed number above. This may cause issues in the future if the
server changes.
And tell the SBC tech! It is their (or the owner of the router's) problem!

If so, change the pop email server to

Thanks Gary for your input. I'll give that a try the next time that I
am at the client's site.
