Outlook Replies to incorrect contact

Good Afternoon all,

I have a real doozie for you all. We seem to be running our exchange
server in a VERY unique way.

We have our exchange as an @abc.com behind another @abc.com. What I am
trying to say is our mail sent to (e-mail address removed) first hits our internet
providers, Virtual addresses set up forward to (e-mail address removed).
Yes, very bad setup, and we are in the middle of fixing it...

In the mean time we have had numberous issues with sending mail to
(e-mail address removed).. That is where my problem lies..

Now I am in no way an expert at this, but I thought I knew how this
was all operating.

Problem today, we get an e-mail from one of outposts (they are on the
abc.com domain also). When I press reply the correct contact shows up
in the TO field ([email protected]). However, when the message is sent
it is bounced back as "mail.abc.com loops back to itself". Upon
checking the sent items Outlook is actually changing the TO address to
(e-mail address removed)! If a guy clicks "New" and makes a new e-mail to
(e-mail address removed) there is no problem! Also, from another computer there
is no problem with using the "Reply" to the same address!

Upon some searching on the net I have checked the following:

1: Reply-to Address is correct
2: Only one account (exchange mail) so cannot be using the wrong
account to send
3: Moving the address book with the correct address to top of the list
in "Check names using these address lists in the following order:" (I
would delete the (e-mail address removed) contact that it is pulling off
the server, but when I do this everyones e-mail to this location get's
bounced! This is the part that I do not understand...)
4: The correct address shows up in what I would call the previously
resolved contacts list (drop down list that pop's up when you start
typing an address) and the incorrect one does not.

Any ideas?

If you need any clarification just let me know! I hope I explained
things well enough..

This is more an Exchange configuration issue than an Outlook one. I would
recommend asking this is an Exchange newsgroup.

My recommendation would be to always have the mail forwarded to your ISP and
to set the primary addresses for every domain user to be the external and
not the internal address.
