Outlook Responsiveness with AOL

I'm using Vista with Office 2007 and an AOL email account. Often, Outlook
just hourglasses...keeping me waiting for a minute or more. With 2007, all
of the configuraiton was done automatically...but is there something set
wrong somewhere to cause all the unresponsiveness?
