After reinstalling Vista I aksed Outlook tor estore all my files from a
backup .pst file. The restore hung and I had to cancel it I restores my files
by changing the name of the backup file to Outlook.pst and pasting it over
the current .pst file. This worked fine but now every time I open Outlook it
searches for the non-existent backup file. How canI stop it from doing this?

You used the wrong method for recovery of outlook data, and may have
corrupted your data file.
Use the Mail applet in the control panel (Classic View) to remove the backup
data file

The backup data file is simply another set of personal folders (pst) named
backup.
To recover a backup pst, or Archive pst, within Outlook simply open the file
