Outlook Rules don't send specified template

P

pubscout

Sorry to bring this up again in a different thread, but this is becoming most
frustrating. I use Outlook 2007; I am the admin, no exchange server.
I create a rule from scratch. I set the conditions to mail a specific
template to a selected person on my email list, and I set a condition to send
their original email to be sent to a spcified folder I made.

I created the template from an Outlook mail message and saved it as an .oft
file. While creating the rule, I selected that template as the one to use in
my reply.

After repeated tests from my contact, his incoming mail is sent to the
folder I chose, but the specified template does not get sent back to him. I
have received a message that says "Rules in error--reply cannot be sent."

Why can't it be sent? Obviously, I'm screwing up somewhere, but I can't
figure out where. Any help from any MVP would be appreciated. I do not want
to use a third-party solution, as I feel this is something Outlook should be
able to do pretty easily.

Why won't my specified template get sent?

Disable the move command (or make a rule that just uses the template) - does
the reply error? Are you using different addresses each time - autoreplies
are 1 per address for session so you either need to restart outlook or test
with several addresses.

When you say "disable the move command" do you also mean that I shouldn't
delete it in the rule?

No reply has ever been sent, so the once per session explanation isn't in
effect. The specified template, however, does sit in my Outbox, but it has no
address to send to.

I disabled the Move command and selected only "Reply with a specified
template." No go. Got the "Rules in Error" message...cannot send reply.

Have you tried office diagnostics?

Have you rebooted between the time the error began and the last try? (It
shouldn't make a difference and doesn't here - but my auto reply rule
works.)

when its in my docs you need to browse for it when select the template to
use. (I always put them in my docs so I can back them up easier.)

choose User templates in file system, Browse, locate the folder and click
ok. if you picked the correct folder where you placed it, it will be listed.

Have you tried office diagnostics?
Did you move the template to a new location after creating the rule?
Have you rebooted between the time the error began and the last try? (It

Got the same problem here, after some searching i found that error come from
a bug with a recent outlook update.

Some said remove office SP2 update will make it work again, but in my case
it's still SP1. Then i start looking at updates installed in control panel,
found KB969907 is the most recent outlook update, remove it, try auto reply,
bingo ! It works again.

So i could say that stupid KB969907 update causing the bug, at least in SP1.
Hope this could help.

I was having this same issue (exactly I believe) therefore I was going to
send my screen prints to Diane in hopes that more info would help solve this
issue. However, when I went to run the rule... it worked!

The only thing I have done to my pc was to upgrade my .net program to v3.5
sp1 (this solved another issue) and apparently is has solved this one... at
least it's an easy thing to try and it won't hurt anything to be updated.

Good Luck - if I can help by sending my screen prints - please let me know.

does
the reply error? Are you using different addresses each
time -
autoreplies
are 1 per address for session so you either need to
restart
outlook
or
test
with several addresses.

Sorry to bring this up again in a different thread, but
this
is
becoming
most
frustrating. I use Outlook 2007; I am the admin, no
exchange
server.
I create a rule from scratch. I set the conditions to
mail
a
specific
template to a selected person on my email list, and I
set a
condition
to
send
their original email to be sent to a spcified folder I
made.

I created the template from an Outlook mail message and
saved
it
as
an
.oft
file. While creating the rule, I selected that template
as
the
one
to
use
in
my reply.

After repeated tests from my contact, his incoming mail
is
sent
to
the
folder I chose, but the specified template does not get
sent
back
to
him.
I
have received a message that says "Rules in error--reply
cannot
be
sent."

Why can't it be sent? Obviously, I'm screwing up
somewhere,
but I
can't
figure out where. Any help from any MVP would be
appreciated.
I
do
not
want
to use a third-party solution, as I feel this is
something
Outlook
should
be
able to do pretty easily.

Why won't my specified template get sent?
