Outlook Rules site

Missy

Does anyone out there know of a site that can help me create rules for this
spam that I keep getting? I have several rules set up but I would like to
make them more effective.

Thanks,

Missy

Personally, I'd check out a third party antispam app - look at SpamBayes
(free - google it).

You know, we have absolutely no way of helping you without know the version
of Outlook you are using, the types of mails that you are getting, what your
already created rules are, and any number of other items that you failed to
mention. Our crystal ball is enjoying a well-deserved vacation so details
will be necessary.

Excuse me, as I didn't think I needed to give all that information for
directions to a site for email rules. I am using Outlook 2003. The emails
are the same that everyone else gets, none of mine are different. I thought
your crystal ball was "all powerful".

Good answer Missy. I read this thread because I'm looking for a site that
addresses Outlook rules. I use several versions of Outlook and have very
complex issues to resolve that would be very hard to explain in this forum.
Besides, I'm sick and tired of dealing with these pain in the butt, holier
than thou, pseudo-MVP morons.

You asked a very pertinent question but Silly Milly couldn't read it clearly
enough from way up there in her ivory tower. Maybe a REAL MVP can tell us
if a Outlook Rules site exists.

Not holding my breath

Bad answer Missy.

How can you possible expect someone to answer when they don't know the
version?

Outlook has changed its junk handling routines significantly in recent
years.

In Outlook 2003, for example, I find that it catches quite a bit of
spam.

And no amount of rule writing is going to solve the stuff it misses.

Much better to get something like Mailwasher than to try doing it
yourself.

The sort of person who does not understand the importance of different
versions of software certainly is not going to be up to writing
complex rules.

Then why do you need rules? Set the junk mail feature on high and learn
to use it. There are instructions on making rules for junk mail at slipstick.com,
but as I said before, you really don't need rules if you enable the junk
filter on high.
Users of older versions will need a 3rd party program or the rules instructions
to handle spam.

Outlook 97 rules wizard is VERY different from Outlook 2003, and all
versions in between improved incrementally. A one size fits all rules page
would not do you much good since Outlook 97 is no longer supported.

However, since you did not even give your version, who would know what level
of rules you would need??? If you go have a look at
http://www.slipstick.com and search for "junk" as a subject, you might find
something you need. However, not all of us get the same spam as many of us
are more careful to not post real addresses in the news groups.

Seriously, what a load of rubbish, sorry, but Outlook spam filtering is a
joke.

They had the biggest test bed of email data using Hotmail, so should have
been able to do something better than they have so far.

It took them sooooo long to finally come up with a half-baked solution. We
were meant to get updated rule sets frequently, it appears we now have to
wait for service packs.

Do what I do, turn it off if available in your version, or don't worry if
not available (there you go, a version neutral solution!!!!) and get
SpamBayes. It integrated with Outlook, works heaps better than anything
Microsoft have come up with, you can train it yourself, and its FREE!!!!!

Chalk another one up to the Open Source Community!!!!

I prefer spambayes too - but it's also true that the spam filtering in
OL2003 is a lot better than that in previous versions.
