outlook scan

In outlook 2007 it takes me over 14 seconds to load. When I uncheck the
outlook scan in add ins it takes less than 4 seconds to open. I am using
mcafee as my virus program. If I uncheck the outlook scan does that mean
mcafee will not check my email for virus?

Any virus should be picked up by your AV real time scanning process.
Intergrating an AV with OL can cause many problems.

So does that mean I'm stuck waiting for outlook to open if I want my email
checked for viruses?

No, it means it won't check them as you download them. the 'autoprotect'
feature will scan every write to the hard drive and outlook writes
everything to the hard drive before opening.

That was true anyway. Besides, the BEST antivirus program is between your
ears. Don't open any attachment you haven't requested and when you do want
to open an attachment, save it to your hard drive first to allow your
on-access scanner to check it before you open it.
