Outlook Send & recieve

I am runing Office 2007 on Vista Home
No major problems other than the update issues which I am working through.

However, the outlook program has suddenly thrown a spanner as when I slect
the Send & recive button the system goes into over drive looking for
increasing task's to be completed!

What I mean by that is the progress window appears and the progress bar
moves across the line as expected but the number of tasks just keep
increasing. I only have 5 accounts to check but have seen the system checking
1500+

As the Cancel All is not functioning at this point the only way I have been
able to stop this continuios operation is to use the task manager which
identifies the package is not responding and closes down but then reopens it
with no error reports.

I am now no longer able to use this package any longer so am keen to resolve.

The problem appeard to start only after I strted the power point program
from what I can recall although this may be nothing to do with it.

I have updated Vista with SP1.

Any suggestions

Have you tried running Office Diagnostics? From any Office Program, open Help->Office Diagnostics. You can also run a maintenance reinstallation from the Programs and Features icon in Control Panel. Select Office and then click on Change. Select Repair.

Thanks Milly
I did run a diagnostics prior to the submission and it found no problems.
Have followed your suggestion re the repair but all it asks me is do I want
to uninstall office - I do not see any option for the repair.
to make this clear these are the steps taken
-Control Panel
-Programs & Features
-Select Microsoft Office Trial 2007 - (note this was loaded by the retailer
(PC World) and they then forwarded me the activation key so I do not have the
disc)
-Right click, look for repair and it's not there

Note repair can be seen against Microsoft Siverlight and some other MS
program's

Any Thoughts

Update
While I have been waiting, I noticed that there were items in the outbox.
Checking these (3 in total) there was one which I had sent 7 days ago with a
high importance which should not have been there.
I inspected the other 2 and pressing send they cleared out of the outbox
with no problems.
The last one, which had recieved an automated reponce from the recipient who
was out of the office, caused the problem originally described when the send
button was selected.
Having found this issue, I closed the program, reopened, opened the affected
mail in the outbox, copied the contents onto a new mail and then deleted the
old file.
This has resolved the problem and the system is working fine now.
Don't know what it was but there you go!
Cheers

After you select Microsoft Office, look at the columns at the top of list and select Change from there. You should get the option to repair in the next window.
