Outlook Slow with Reading Pane Enabled

Outlook 2007 - Win XP Pro. With the reading pane on send-receives of more
than a few messages can take a very long time - often hanging Outlook
altogether and forcing an exit. This morning I discovered that shutting the
reading pane off enabled me to download more than 60 emails in under a
minute. Could this be an anti virus (Zone Alarm) problem? I have disabled
all ad-ins.

Try uninstalling your AV, reboot, then retest.
If all ok, reinstall the AV without the Outlook intergration
