outlook sometimes takes several minutes to open

What causes this problem. It appears locked in the splash screen but when I
have the patience, and wait 5+ minutes, it opens. I ran scanpst on my PST
file and No errors.

What version of Outlook are you using? In case of 2002/XP try disabling the
Messenger integration;
Tools-> Options-> tab Other
