Outlook stops when collecting mail

Can anybody help - when I try to collect mail using Outlook (outlook
2000 on XP)it stops after the first message and an error message
'outlook has detected a fault and needs to close' appears. I can
collect mail on OE but I need everything in Outlook. This is a regular
error but occasionally mail is collected correctly
