Outlook Strange Behavior

Adrion

*Every* time I finish with Outlook and close the program, a dialog box will
come up and say that 'Outlook has encountered an error, and must close. Do
you want to send an error report?" Since this happens 3 or 4 times a day, I
always say "yes" send the error report, hoping that somebody will get sick
and tired of receiving them and will do something about an upgrade or fix.
Apparently that is not going to happen, so I am looking for advice as to how
to simply close OUtlook without problems.

Sorry, I should have added that I'm talking about Outlook 2007, Windows XP.

Is it Outlook that is causing the problem, or perhaps an add-on? Try to
start Outlook in Safe Mode (Start -> Run -> outlook /safe) to see if it
also happens.

You are absolutely right. When I start Outlook as you suggested, it will
close without any problems. Now I don't know what kind of add-on there might
be. I know that my AVG Antivirus is active, but don't know of anything
else.... hmmm... except maybe those buttons near the top that say "Mark as
Spam," "Mark as Wanted," "Configure." Don't know when they appeared, nor how
to get rid of them.

Could be part of AVG or another anti-malware suite that you have installed.
Disable the integration of both and try again.

Thank you All, especially Roady -- I simply right clicked on one of those
buttons, it had an AVG in the list. I clearned the check mark, they went
away, and so did the problem. Just like everyone to know that EVERY problem
I have posted here, somebody has given me a solution. Guess I should try to
delete this threat, after I give those who helped a chance to receive my
thanks.

Hi Adrion and/or Roady and/or anyone else who can help:

I'm having the exact same problem that Adrion had with the persistent error
reports upon closing Outlook - everything's the same: Outlook 2007, Windows
XP, AVG - except I cannot find the "buttons" referred to by Adrion that
allowed him to solve the problem by clearing a check mark. Can anyone help
please?

Thanks,
Terry

Hi Ben,

I'm using AVG Free Addition v. 8.0.138, and I can't figure out how to
completely disable the email scanner, although I can chose to individually
disable "Scan incoming messages" and "Scan outgoing messages". Even when I
disabe both, AVG still says "Email Scanner is Active", and Outlook still
prompst to send an error report when I close it. To disable the email
scanner, the AVG website says to go to Tools - Advanced Configuration -
navigate to E-mail Scanner - Servers, but I don't have the "Servers" button.

I should mention that I've been using AVG and Outlook 2007 together for more
that a year, and and the problem with Outlook began only just last week.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

Terry

Go into AVG's configuration settings and try disabling the e-mail
scanner and see if the problem goes away. Which version of AVG are you
using?

Uninstall AVG completely, then reinstall and deselect the email scanner
component that will be displayed in the component list.

Brian:

I originally posted this problem. NONE of the suggestions I originally got
from this site worked more than once or twice. I was happy and grateful, but
the "solutions" I got did not work long. I use AVE Pro, and pay for it!, and
have AVG working their derrier's off to find the answer to the problem. AVG
sent me a very complicated set of instrucitons, which took several hours to
follow. RESULT: Nothing worked. In fact, I had to go back to another point
in time and RESTORE my computer because of the conflicts it caused. The
Outlook problem still exists, but it is easier to simply say "Don't send,"
than to have to buy a new computer. My resolution: "Live with it."
