BT's Broadband help desk people tell me that they don't
support Outlook! Can this be true?

Is there a way to transfer all my (and wife & son's)
settings etc to Outlook?

Yes. In general, the phrase "does not support" means "does not answer
questions on." There is no implication that Outlook does not work.

Launch Outlook, go to File - Import and Export. You'll see an
option to import mail setting, etc.
