Outlook Versus Live Mail?

D

Don Green

I run Win7 SP-1, and noticed that my computer has Microsoft Live
installed. One of the components is Live Mail.

What's the difference between Outlook and Live Mail?
Does Live Mail replace Outlook, and of course, how well does Live Mail
synch with today's Smartphones?

As always, helpful responses are very much appreciated!

Thanks.

The problem is that the OP is probably referring to Outlook Express, not
Outlook thanks to Microsoft's piss poor naming scheme.

My response still stands.

What pisses me off more than anything is that most people don't do shit to
research information. With the internet at their fingertips they still
don't even try. They would rather post a question and wait for minutes,
hours and days for someone else to spoon feed them an answer when they can
have more information than they care to in milliseconds.

Do yourself a favor and use Thunderbird. Windows Live Mail is a real
piece of shit. Get Thunderbird at http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird.
Once you've got it installed, add news.mozilla.thunderbird so you can
ask questions about your smartphone in the mozilla.support.thunderbird
news group. I don't use smartphones so I don't know how T-Bird supports
that but I am sure there is an extension or add on that will do the job.

That should be news.mozilla.com.

Probably set up by the OEM; out of the box, Windows 7 does not come with any
of the Windows Live Essentials, and you have to change the Windows Update
settings from default to have Windows Live Essentials offered through
Microsoft Updates.

MS Outlook is a component of MS Office, which is a full-blown PIM. It is not
free. Windows Live Mail is a poor imitation of same, but free.
Does Live Mail replace Outlook ...

No. With this caveat: MS Outlook is not the same thing as MS Outlook
Express. Nor is "Outlook" proper shorthand for "Outlook Express". And
Windows Live Mail *is* the direct replacement for MS Outlook Express.
...and of course, how well does Live Mail synch with today's Smartphones?

Not a clue.

Hard to get a "helpful" response to a poorly phrased question. And yours was
poorly phrased, due to the confusion between "Outlook", and "Outlook
Express".
