Outlook will Send / Receive even though I'm offline.

I'm running Microsoft Outlook 2003, I have it set up to automatically check
for emails every couple of minutes (only when on-line). However, when I am
off-line and I have outlook open composing or checking previous emails, it
still trys to check for emails and obviously gives a meassage of unsuccesful.
What could be causing this??? As i mentioned, I only have the box checked for
checking when online.

Are you sure you're offline?
You're only offline when you tell Outlook you're offline by resetting your
status in the File menu.
Do not confuse being offline with your Internet connection status.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I mean that I'm not "connected" via any form of
telecomunications when It is trying to do an automatic send and recieve.
(TOOLS, OPTIONS, MAIL SETUP, SEND/RECEIVE)

Outlook has no way of knowing what your connection status is unless you tell
it.

I never had this problem with my previous version of Office Outlook Premium
2000. It was set up to automatically check emails and would only do it if I
was connected to the internet.

None of this changed. In Outlook, Online and Offline has never referred to
your Internet connection status. It refers only to your connection status to
your mail server (for the users for whom Outlook was designed, that's
Exchange Server, BTW).
Outlook was not designed with dial up users in mind, so its behavior with
dial up connections will seem unusual to you. After Outlook 2000, Outlook
was changed in response to user requests so that an automatic polling
interval would force a poll on launch as well as at the polling intervals,
but that was the only change that was made.
