Outlook with BCM SP4 Failing to Install

B

Bunster147

I have 3 PCs (all HP4400) and I like to keep all my software upto date on all
of them.
My PC (PCMain) was running the BCM databases and sharing this database with
the other 2 PCs (PC2and PC3)
Lsst night I upgraded all three PCs with the Outlook with BCM SP4 (one
reason is that I may upgrade all PCs to Vista very soon).
The Upgrade worked perfectly on PC2 and PC3 but failed on my pc (PCMAIN) and
now I can longer share the database with the other PCs.
I have checked the install on PC2 and PC3 (looking for the existance of
Bcmfirewall.exe) and these files are on PC2 and PC3 so I know the updates
worked OK on these but this file is not on my (PCMAIN) PC.

The error I am getting from the install log is as follows.

I believe BCM didn't install because the Sql Server install failed.

I've seen that error (0x42A2) before on machines with several sql
server installations.

If you only use sql for bcm on this machine, I would suggest removing
all Sql Server programs, stopping all anti-virus utilities, and then
re-installing.

The BCM database files will be left behind when you uninstall sql.

Thanks Luther. I thought that may be the case. The other machines are brand
new and di not have a problem installing.

I will confirm if this approach worked.

Hi LUther. I have now removed all SQL applications from the PC and even
removed OUtlook BCM.
I then reinstalled outlook 2003 with BCM, which includes the install of the
necessary SQL bits but the services still fail to start.
What I have noticed is that the sql services I have running on my PC is
HP4400TB\SQLEXPRESS where as the SQL services running on the other 2 PC,
which are working fine is HP4400JB\MSSMLBIZ and HP4400CS\MSSMLBIZ .
Does the name of the service matter.
I have looked at trying to rename my SQL service but so far I have not found
out how to do this.

I have also noticed that even with this service stopped, I can run BCM on my
machine with no problem, so I do not quite understand why I need the SQL
service.

I run BCM on three machines and the database resides on HP4400JB and I want
the remaining 2 PCs to share this database.
One of the new PCs HP4400CS connects fine.

Your help would be appreciated.
