outlook won't automatically send or receive

I have a laptop that is connected to my home network via wirless connection.

Currently, the only way to RECEIVE emails is if I go to Tools, Send/Receive,
and select my pop3.----- connection. It won't receive if I select the main
Send/Receive button on the main Outlook toolbar. It seems to only connect
when I go in through the Tools menu.

I have Outllook 2000.
