Outlook won't send large attachments

Hi Brian,

Here was my original message, and I had follow the instruction of Frenchy,
who had responded back with going in and changing the time out value, so I
ended up with that message, and yes, it's what produced the response of "that
account name is already in use"

Original Message 5-06-08:

Hi Milly,

I'm having this problem too. My Outlook 2003 will not send emails that are
larger than 6 or 7mb, though when I had 2000, I didn't have this issue. I
tried what you suggested with changing the timeout and I recieved an error
that said "that account name is already in use, choose another name" it
won't do it. So I'm at a loss and I do have to send contracts over my email,
I've tried using .rar .zip ,etc but none compress down small enough to send
at 5 to 6 MB; my ISP said my limit is 10MB per email.

Any suggestions on this issue above and any suggestions on some other
compression programs would be of tremendous assistance as I deal is some
fairly large PDF files, and I've seen some that are over 40pgs compressed
down to a 6MB file.

I've also noticed that I'm getting errors on trying to start Outlook when
having re-boot the system that it can't access the .pst folder and on exiting
I get a major error, and all I was able to gather was this...

App. Name: Outlook.exe
App. Version: 11.0.8.206.0
App. Stamp: 479ce0d
ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.200.3119
Mod Stamp: 46239bd5
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00012a5b
c:\Docume (funny little symbol - not on my keyboard)1\Sunnys(funny
symbol)1\Locals(funny symbol)1\Temp\1750875.cvr

Not sure what this is all about ....

Thanks in advance for any assistance...

I'm not surprised. Frenchy didn't suggest anything that appears to me to
address your problem. To change the server timeout value for an account in
Outlook 2003, click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Select your account, click
Change, then More Settings. On the Advanced tab is where you'll find the
timeout value.

Sorry, but does this fix the issue of my email being able to send files of up
to 10MB?

Any suggestions on the other two issues with it not being able to access the
..pst files when the system has finished booting up or the other "serious
error" message received every time I close Outlook? And lastly, if I were to
just upgrade at this point to Office 2007, would it repair these issues?

Thanks Brian

Sorry I didn't tell the OP to change the time out value! I gave a
couple of ways that the important large E-mails could be sent (like
using OE or using an upload web site). I appreciate that didn't fix the
Outlook problem, but it WOULD get the E-Mails sent!

Have you verified that your antivirus program is NOT scanning mail? What is
your send/receive interval value?

Hi Brian and Frenchy,

Sorry for the delayed response, slammed at work this week. I appreciate the
suggestions on programs that may assist in sending large files in the mean
time, thank you Frenchy. The time out thing, was something that you
recommended to someone with a previous post, and I thought I would give it a
shot, but it wouldn't let me do that.

As for my anti-virus scanning my email, no I don't have AVG doing that.
This has been the case ever since I installed 2003, which was in December 07.
So almost 6 mos.

So Brian, where do I check for verifying the send and receive interval
value, not quite sure where this would be located...

Thanks for both your help....

No problems, mine was not a solution, just a means for you to get the
important files away.

Are you sure the recipient's ISP has not reduced the size of arriving
E-Mails, if so, they will get rejected as you try to send them. Just a
thought. Also, check the ACTUAL size of your E-Mails. Something with a
5 Mb attachment may be way bigger than 5 Mb and maybe you are hitting
your ISP's limit?

Hi Frenchy & Brian,

I have spoken with some of those that I was sending to and they don't have
issues receiving the larger files, I'm the one with the problems
unfortunately.
Not sure if this will be of any assistance, but here is some info I was able
to get off of the Event Viewer Log, please let me know if you come up with
anything from this...

So Brian, where do I check for verifying the send and receive interval
value, not quite sure where this would be located...

While viewing your Inbox, press Alt-Ctrl-S. The Send/Receive Groups
dialogue will apper and the interval is there.

Not sure if this will be of any assistance, but here is some info I
was able to get off of the Event Viewer Log, please let me know if
you come up with anything from this...

Do those errors coincide with send/receive attempts? Clear the event log
and try the send/eceive again. The examine the log to see if any fresh
events appear. You'll then have a better idea whether or not the event and
the action are connected.

When I try to send an attachment 1mb or larger Outlook won't send it. It used
to send but leave it in the Outbox so I ended up sending it 20 times now it
won't send at all.

I don't know if this is my ISP or Outlook configuration/installation but I
could use some assistance.

Thanks

I too am having problems sending large attachments in Outlook 2003. The
message that I receive is:

......Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

......552 sorry, that message size exceeds my databytes limit (#5.3.4)

I have tried to search for different settings, but can't seem to come up
with the right combination. Any help would be appreciated.

That message says that the recipient's server is rejecting the message
because of its size. Your recipient must address the problem, if it's even
possible to address. Tthe only thing you can do is to reduce the size of
the message.
