Outlook XP -> can't authenticate

OS: Windows XP pro, SP1 with all critical updates
regularly check for and applied when available.

I often connect to work via VPN, I use Outlook XP to
connect to my mailbox on an Exchange 5.5 server.
Everything was working fine up until a few months ago.
When I get the authentication dialog box for Outlook it
always fails no matter what I enter. I think it must be
something to do with a security patch applied but I'm not
sure.

To narrow down some of possibilities I installed another
instance of Windows XP and Outlook XP. No patches or
service packs for either. I connected to work via VPN and
had no problems using Outlook to connect to my mailbox.
With these results I think I can rule out problems with
the VPN connection and ports being blocked by the
firewalls.

Any help would be appreciated.
