Outlook XP fails to release focus

When I double click on an email msg to open it, it opens behind the Outlook
window. The email msg should receive focus and move in front of Outlook.
Instead, Outlook maintains focus and the email msg is behind Outlook. I can
Alt-Tab to bring the msg forward, but I should not have to do this. I am
running Office XP SP3 on an XP Professional box.

I suspect the virus scanner may be causing this. Disable "real time
scan" and see if that is the reason.

Disabling the real-time scan had no effect. Does anyone have any other
suggestions? MS Office XP reload, Win XP Pro overlay install?

Thanks

If you select the e-mail you wish to open and then press the enter key
to open it (NOT double click), what happens?

No difference. Either way, the email window doesn't gain focus. It always
shows up behind the Outlook window.
