I use O/L XP and I travel between several offices. I keep my pst file on my
notebook but usually use a local machine attached to a local DC in the
offices I visit. (It doesn't work attaching a machine regularly to different
domains). I also have a local logon in each office with a local roaming
profile. The companies are not part of the same domain or forest - they are
completely separate companies.
I set each local roaming profile to point to the pst file on my notebook (it
sort of acts as a pst file server). Before upgrading to Outlook XP, the
system worked fine (Outlook 2000) I matched up all my accounts on each
profile (in O/L 2000 I changed the Folder Name (actually a hex number) in
the registry to be the same for each account on each profile so that the
rules matched and the accounts matched. Once I had downloaded my messages
under one profile, it did not download duplicates under another.
However, since upgrading to XP I have not been able to prevent this from
happening. I located the Internet Email accounts in the registry - they have
moved since O/L 2K. The folder names match and I changed the mini UID under
each account to match on each profile. I think the rules are now included in
the pst file and the accounts all match under each profile. I never get
"specified" account in the Rules. However, I cannot seem to find where the
marker is that identifies the last downloaded email for each account so
everytime I move between offices and thus open outlook through a different
roaming profile, I get the all undeleted messages downloaded from my
Internet POP accounts.
NB - I do not want to delete all messages when I download them. I need to
store them for up to 5 days as the only chance I get to back up my pst file
is at weekends.
Does anyone have any ideas. I thought that I'd cracked it when I found the
mini UID but I was wrong.
One more thing. I cloned the profile from one office to a local profile on
my notebook and I use that when I'm running the notebook on its own. I do
not have the problem when I use a cloned profile so it must be possible to
change something in the registry to fix this problem. I do not want to have
to clone each and every profile because most things in the roaming profiles
are different. I also need a quick way to fix this problem should I need to
add more profiles in the future.
Please, I'm not looking for suggestions on how I can change the way I
operate. I need to operate in this way. I really just need to know how to
solve the problem.
Many thanks
