Outlook XP with Microsoft Mail

All,

I have managed to get Outlook XP running with Microsoft Mail, with one
small problem.

The Post Office is on a remote network, hence I have to use dial-up
networking to access it. However, when I click Send/Receive, Outlook
XP starts dialing the connection I set in the MS Mail settings
automatically.

So unlike Internet Mail, Outlook XP does not prompt me for a username
or password. It just starts dialing straight away, and I don't know
what kind of username or password it's using.

Once it handshakes with the remote modem it seems to pass the wrong
username and/or password because it does not authenticate on the
remote network, and just drops out.

I know the dial-up networking entry works normally because it's the
only one on the PC, and it hooks up OK if I run it from the shortcut
on the Desktop. Oh, btw, OS is Windows XP Pro with MS Office XP Pro
(2002).

So question is, has anyone come accross this before, and if so how was
it resolved?

Many thanks in advance,

Mike
