How do I export my contacts from my desk top to import to my lap top?
(without getting a Palm Pilot).

You wouldn't.
Exporting and importing is not the correct way to transfer data.
Copy the Outlook data file and open it in the other installation.
If you only want to transfer Contacts, then copy them into their own Outlook
Data File and copy it.
