Hello

I open outlook then exit out of it.

I then re-open it. It now opens 2 outlook windows. They both have the same in them. The only different is on the top right where the outlook icon is, one has the outlook icon and the other has a folder icon.

Has anyone cam across this before, its been doing it for a while now, not sure how, not sure why.

Cheers

After you exit Outlook the first time, check the running processes in your
Task manager to see if OUTLOOK.EXE is still running. If it is, something is
holding it open.

The likely culprits are AV integration with Outlook, an Add In or COM, Fax
software, synch software for a handheld, or even 3rd party anti-spam filters,
etc.

The top right of what? Usually, the top right of a window contains the
Close button. What version of Outlook? Are you seeing a folder? If not,
what view are you examining? If you close the second window that opens,
then, in the first, click File>Exit, wait a little longer than you have been
waiting, then reopen Outlook, does the behavior change?

Sorry i did a typo, i meant the top left, where the picture of a clock is, or what ever its supposed to be.

So i open outlook. Then i exit it.

Then i re-open it.

One opens normally with the pretty picture at the top LEFT.

Then another opens with a folder icon at the top LEFT, instead of a pretty picture.

Why would this happen and is there a way to stop it.

I was thinking of recreating my outlook profile, then importing the PST's, but thats time consuming and if it happens again i would like to figure out what the actual problem was.

Never EVER import a PST. Chances are you will corrupt your mail profile and
you WILL lose data.

Close the second window. Then in the first, click File>Exit. Wait a
minute. Now try to open Outlook again. What happens?

I work in IT and always import PST's never had any problems.

One of my users is the one that actually has the problem. Just seeing if anyone has come across this before. My machine works fine.

It would save me uninstalling office or doing a repair thats all, plus i like to no how things work, or why things are doing certain things.

Simply closing the application like you suggested will not fix this.

Thanks for your help, i am going to to do a detect and repair and if that doesnt work i will re-install office.

Thanks for your time.

Then you've been very lucky. BTW, "I work in IT" doesn't mean a
THING......you could be the call-desk receptionist.....

What problem? Please quote the post you are replying to. BTW, if you are "in
IT" then why are you a) using a Gmail address and b) using some sort of
awful forum rather than a direct subscription to the MS news server?
