I am not quite sure what I did, but the last time I tried
to start Outlook, it asks me set up Outlook. I am afraid I
lost my address book. With Windows XP and Outlook 2000,
using windows explorer, where do I go to find the folder
that the Outlook address file is in? Would incoming mail
be included in this folder, and how would these files be
labeled?

Please help.

All Outlook items are in the same file, a file with type .pst, usually
located in %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
This is a hidden folder. Your address book is actually your Contacts
folder, which can be enabled to act as an address book using the Outlook
Address Book properties page of the Contacts folder, provided the Outlook
Address Book services has been added to your profile.

Brian:

I think some Outlook files on my computer are in two places, one the Program
Files in a Microcoft Office directory, and the other in the Applications Data
directory in the Documents and Settings part of the hard drive. Should I
move some of them so they are all in one location? I have a Dell desktop
computer with Windows XP Home Edition, SP-2, and Microsoft Office 2000.

The Outlook image and its attendent DLLs are in the Office and Windows
folders, and they need to remain there. Other Outlook files are in
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook and
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. See
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm

PST files, while defaulting to %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook don't need to be in that folder. Any folder to which
you have read/write access will do. The remainer must be left where they
are.
