Outlook2003 and Excel attachments HELP!

When I open an excel attacment in Outlook 2003, it opens
as a read only. Why is this? I need to open the file
for read /write.

Are you opening the attachment from the "Preview Pane"?
This will always open in "Read Only". You need to open
the message and then open the attachment.
