Outlook2003 & Default Mail Client for Envelopes & Labels

Sent this question to "Outlook Contacts" Group 4 hours ago and it is not
displayed yet!!!
Trying to send it "Office General Questions" this time... Hope I am not
doing wrong thing...
-----------------------------------

Although I looked up other similar topics, could not find the conclusion for
my problem. If I missed a crucial one, I apologise in advance for creating a
new thread.

I am using Office2003 with WindowsXP.

When I try to insert an address onto an envelope or a label with Word2003
under an address book icon I get a message:-
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot
fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it
as the default mail client."

*** Outlook had been chosen as default mail client with check in the box.
(Outlook Tool -> Option -> Other ->)

When click "OK", I get another message:-
"Logon failed. You must log on to Microsoft Exchange to access your address
book. Error code: "Unspecified error".

With Office1998/2000 I did not have this problem, therefore I have no
experience of finding a false settings on this matter.

How can I correct the cause of problem, or if Microsoft Exchange would solve
this problem, where do I find "Microsoft Exchange"?

I seem to have found the solution! In case people with the same problem are
checking this thread, I report my case.

I am a WinXP-Pro + Office2003 user.

I could not find the conclusion for a long time although I looked in all
possible newsgroups, many of which were no help as, in my case, Outlook had
been chosen already as 'default mail client' in both Outlook & Internet
Options.
(Outlook/Tools/Options/Other -&- Control Panel/Internet
Options/Programs/Contact List)

Today I came across with a thread “cannot insert address in "Envelopes and
Labels" window - 4/9/2006â€, where I found the last hint.

Now, in the Internet Option, I also selected 'Outlook' for E-mail instead of
'Outlook Express (OE)'. Bravo!

OE still receives E-mails and auto-checks in the set-intervals as before.
However, when you newly open OE a pop-up message asks you if you would like
to make OE your default mail client. Simply click "No".

I never had all these complications with Win98+Office2000. As MS products
progress things seem to get more complicated rather than easier and simpler!!!

Hope this helps other viewers (this solution may apply to Office2007 users
as well) - if it does, please report here. I tick in for 'Notify me of
replies'.

Good luck!
