Outlook's backup.pst only gives me Contacts!

I've religiously exported my Personal Folders from
Outlook 2000 (SP-3) to a file named backup.pst forever.
It was my impression that this .pst file would contain
all my Outlook settings, E-mails (Inbox, Sent,
categoriezed into folders), as well as Contacts, etc. I
had a computer die after I was able to get this file
backed up to a CD. Now that I have my new computer, when
I use backup.pst to Import back into my newly reinstalled
Outlook, all I get is my Contacts information. Everything
else is gone. I accept that I may need to live with that,
but I presume I'm doing something wrong. If you've got an
answer, please help me so that this doesn't happen to me
again!

What happens if you simply open the backup.pst file in Outlook, rather than
import from it? To open it, use File | Open | Personal Folders File. Make
sure your Folder List is visible (View | Folder List).

I've had a similar issue. If you're using a backup from a
CD, copy the file to your hard drive, right click on it
and make sure that the "READ ONLY" attribute is
unchecked. Outlook has a big issue with this. I won't
guarantee this will fix your issue, but try it and see if
it helps. It helped me after I pulled most of my hair
out!!!
