!!!OUTRAGED!!!

R

Rob Pietri

I accessed my latest stats report from Yahoo, who hosts my
site and found this link tied to one of my images.

/NarrationsInLight.com/HTMFiles/asburypark/casino4.htm

I do not know if it will link here, but the link was tied
to some search engine results. I then went to my website,
to that image and found that, somehow, someone had placed
flashing/linked advertising within the frame of the image!

I immediatly went to my HTML files to see if someone
hacked my website and found that the files for that image
were in order. But when previewed in the browser, that
damn ad was there! The only way to delete the ad was to
delete that image from the website. The ad was for
software, Britteny Spears, and other raunchy junk.

When I cut and paste another image, there is no problem.
However, when I try to reinsert that image, the ad shows
up instead of the image.

How is it that someone can replace content on my website,
with an unwanted ad, violate my space, without actually
accessing my web files. And how can I stop this from
happening!

Sounds like Spyware. Some of them do that. Download Ad-aware http://www.lavasoft.de/ and run it. You can also use Spybot.

Rob,

It sounds like you have some type of spyware on your PC. Some of these
types of applications will replace images within web pages that you are
viewing. When I viewed your site I didn't see any ads at all. You can
verify this by looking at the same page from another (hopefully uninfected)
computer.

If this is the case, you should install Ad-aware and Spybot Search &
Destroy:
- Ad-aware - http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
- Spybot S&D - http://www.spybot.info/

I suggest running both utilities because their coverage overlaps.

Jack,

Thanks for the info and taking the time to look at my
site. I deleted those images from my webserver via
FrontPage earlies this morning. It was the only way to
remove them. I also had links to certain words in my
essays that I also changed to remove the links.

I ran Adware and will run Spybot now and see what happens.
Then I will change the names on those images and reload
them and see what happens.

I hope this works and if it happens again, I will check
them on another computer.

These people doing this type of gorilla tactics are truly
outrageous!

Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

Just so you know you're not alone - same here! Paid for web space, three
flashing pop up adds on the first page, one of them for an online casino.
Have written to the web host, who knows he might even reply.

Can you provide the URL? If the ads show up on other computers, then the
problem _is_ with the web host. If they only show up on your computer, then
you probably have some type of spyware installed. By providing your URL,
you can get a quick answer to the problem.

It's

thepowderroom.net.nz

but I have fixed it, found some rogue code, deleted it and I was away again.
I did hear back from my host and he said it wasn't them, but I had already
figured it out by then, so all that was left to do was to appologise to him
for telling him off :)
Cheers
