Overlapping tasks - resource management

Peter

I've been checking documentation and searching, but I can't figure out
this issue, probably because I don't know how to ask...

Say a person is working on a task in one project that is expected to be
finished in two weeks. During that time they will finish several small
tasks in other projects. How can I model this? If I schedule that
resource for both of these tasks they will be overallocated.

A very newbie question, I know, but I would greatly appreciate any tips,
including where in the documentation I should be reading.

Thanks in advance.

If the small tasks are as small as you seem to indicate, I would allow the
overallocation to occur and not worry about it. Remember that not all
overallocations are worth leveling. In your situation, as actuals are
entered for the the small tasks and then later for the large task, the
overallocation will eventually disappear. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks, that makes sense.

What if you had a situation where a person was spending half their time
on one project, and half on another? What would you do with that?

Thanks again!

I would assign the resource at 50% Units on each task in each project. This
would prevent the overallocation and show that the resource is only able to
devote half their time on each task in each project. Hope this helps.
