Overlaying text on text MS Pub 2002 ?

S

Serendipity

In earlier versions of MS Publisher it was possible to lay one text
box over another e.g. A large letter "D" with a word written
vertically inside the downstroke of the "D" Trouble is that
I can't remember how I did it.

I'm now using 2002 and whatever the method "was" it
appears not to be in this later version. I get round it by
using the Ctrl 'M' and putting the large letter 'D' on
the 'backing' page (or whatever it's called) then use
control 'M' again, and type in the vertical word on top
of the Black 'D' If you see what I mean?

However, I'd like to be able to place one text box on top of another
without displacing text on the under box.

Sorry if the explanation isn't too clear, but assuming someone
can understand it, will they advise me as to how I may achieve
my aim without using the Ctrl 'M' method.

NB: there are other reasons for wanting to carry out
this procedure by the 'old' method.

Thank you.

You can use the *Send to Back* feature which is on the Arrange > Order menu.
And be sure you set your text wrap properties for your text box (right click
text box, Text Box Properties)

|| Brian -

|| Since you've mentioned it, could you please explain the difference
|| between "Send to Back" and "Send Backwards"? I've used it but I
|| don't know when I should use one over the other. Most of the time
|| it's hit or miss.

Send to back: Say you have 10 layered items, Send to Back will send the item
selected ALL the way to the back of the pile. If you choose Send Backward,
it will send it behind one layer at a time.

If you have three items, and you have the top item selected, and you choose
the option send Backwards, it sends it one layer down. Send to Back would
send it to the bottom - third item down.

Right click frames and in text frame properties turn off wrap text around

.....................................................

Probably I'm a bit thick, but when I right click the frame
lots of items show in the drop down menu, but none
of them is "text frame properties."

What am I doing wrong?

Brian.
When I Right Click on the text frame, the menu which
appears does *not* show "Text Box Properties" ?

I am using 2002 (10.2621.2625)

Format Text Box is what you are looking for.
The Wrapping options are on the Layout tab.
